“And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.” (Luke 17:26-30)
This morning I was reading the story of how Lot was rescued from the judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah, found in Genesis 19. One of the most tragic parts of the story that stood out to me today was in verse 14, “So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.”
Lot’s sons in-law never made it out of Sodom. They did not heed his warnings, as they thought he was joking. The Lord didn’t have mercy on them. It says that He has mercy on Lot and his wife and daughters and even though they lingered, literally took them by the hand and led them outside the city and made sure they were safe. Why didn’t he do the same with his sons in-law? The difference is how they received the word. They made light of it, they did not take it seriously. Lot and his wife and daughters believed the Word of the Lord and took heed. They would have lingered because they wanted the rest of their family to come, but they didn’t listen.
It was the same with Noah – his generation did not take his preaching seriously, and they died under God’s judgement.
Today if you’re reading and you’re not right with God- don’t take God’s Word and warnings as a joke. It’s serious business. It’s about your eternal destination. If Jesus returned today, or if you were to die today – would you go to Heaven or to Hell? Those at the only 2 options, whether you believe or not, it’s the truth. And today God is delaying His judgment for YOU…will you take it seriously, or as a joke?
Noah entered the ark – and judgement rained down in a flood.
Lot was taken out of Sodom – and judgment of fire and brimstone rained down.
In the near future, when His church is taken out the world by the rapture (debate it all you want) – then judgment will rain down – it’s called the Tribulation.
Argue the timing of all these things, but I believe in a pre-tribulation rapture. His Word in 1 Thess 5:9, context being the Day of the Lord when He returns, says that we are not appointed to wrath- and the examples of Noah and Lot, I believe are prophetic symbols of the way the world will be judged in the end – when His people are taken out of the scene – as what happened with Noah and Lot.
Even when the judgment on Egypt was happening with all the plagues, the Israelites may have still been there until Pharoah finally gave in and let them go…but NONE of the plagues touched His people – He protected them through it all.
Amen…so people, seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near…today is the day of salvation – don’t wait until tomorrow, it truly may be too late. And whatever you do, don’t take this as a joke, take it seriously and you will live.
God bless …
