“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me…” (Acts 1:8)
Have you ever witnessed to someone about Christ only to have your words fall on deaf ears? I think we all have at some point in our lives. In fact, many of us may have given up completely at witnessing due to not seeing anyone at all respond.
Do you know what the best way is to witness to someone? It’s not showing them a heap of scriptures, although you can incorporate them into. It’s not your theology, it’s not your Bible College degree and how educated you are- it’s not about how you even speak. Paul himself said in 1 Cor 2:1-5,
And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Paul’s own ability to witness did not come from Himself – but he fully relied on the Holy Spirit’s power to demonstrate and back up the simple message of the cross. And he also says he “declared the testimony of God.”
He shared his testimony! His own account of what the Lord did in his life! You can find his story in Acts 9, where he had a powerful encounter with the living, resurrected Christ.
All of the Apostles were witnesses of Christ – they encountered the Lord during His earthly ministry and witnessed His death and resurrection. They encountered the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost and went out with boldness to declare the message of the Cross, to which they were witnesses!
In Acts 3, the lame man from birth, begging at the Gate Beautiful, got healed miraculously and became a witness to the healing power of God. That was his own personal testimony to the resurrection of Jesus! The fact that He got healed showed everyone around him that Jesus is indeed alive and is working by His Spirit.
What’s YOUR testimony? Do you remember how the Lord led you to Himself? I know I can never forget how the Lord forgave me of all my sins. I had an encounter with the Lord when he knocked me off my feet and delivered me from demonic oppression last year. I literally felt a demon spirit jump off me. I know that sounds crazy but it’s true. Afterwards I felt a gentle hand rest on my back for ages and felt so light and full of joy.
All Jesus wants us to do is share what He has done in our lives. YOUR own story will have more impact than quoting many scriptures to people … YOU and I are the only Bible many will ever read. Paul says we are the Epistles of Christ. Our very lives and testimonies will speak volumes to those around us. 2 Cor 3:3 says…
Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
Don’t give up sharing your testimony – your story is so powerful!
